Area: length × width of the tiled surface. Metric is converted to square feet for the calculation.
Boxes: area × (1 + waste ÷ 100) ÷ coverage per box, rounded up. Use the coverage from your tile box (sq ft or sq m).
Waste: accounts for cuts, breakage, and pattern matching—use a higher % for diagonal layouts and large-format tile.
Cost planning: use your entered material price for each calculated unit (or converted paint package pricing), then add labor and contingency to produce the total budget range.
